WOONSOCKET — Patrick Miller Cahill, 90, of Woonsocket, passed away Thursday, March 22, 2018, at his home in Woonsocket.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 26, at St. Wilfrid‘s Catholic Church in Woonsocket, with visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. and a scripture service at 7 p.m. Sunday at the church. Burial will follow in St. Wilfrid’s Catholic Cemetery under direction of Basham Funeral Services of Woonsocket.
Patrick was born February 18, 1928, in Woonsocket, to Neil and Mollie (Miller) Cahill. He was a 1945 graduate of Woonsocket High. He married Mary Lou Anton May 29, 1950, in Wessington Springs. He worked for the United States Postal Service for 44 years.
He was a World War II veteran, past commander of the American Legion Post 29, Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus, a lifelong member of St. Wilfrid’s Catholic Church and served 23 years on the Wessington Springs Hospital Advisory board. Patrick enjoyed camping, fishing, baseball, and his grandchildren. Patrick was a humble man. He was very proud of his mother who homesteaded by herself in Meade County, and his grandparents, who homesteaded in the Storla area in 1883.
Survivors include three sons, Dr. William (Renada) Cahill of Huron, Dan of Woonsocket, and Tom of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; four daughters, Kim (Jim) Chambers of Butte, Mont., Lori (John) Strandholm of Sheridan, Wyo., Lynn (Craig) Brueske of Woonsocket, and Kari (Troy) Stulken of Pierre; brother-in-law, David Anton of Fresno, Calif.; sister-in-law, Bernadine Bjorkman of Sioux Falls; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Patrick was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou; a son, Michael; two brothers, Donley Ronish and Fr. Neil Cahill, S.J., Jr; and a sister, Mary Jo Wachtler.
