FLANDREAU — Shirley Dudley, 88, of Flandreau, and formerly of Huron, passed away Sunday, January 28, 2024, at Riverview Healthcare in Flandreau.


Her Memorial Service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, at Welter Funeral Home.


Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday morning.


Shirley was born Jan. 5, 1936, in Ivanhoe, Minn., to her parents Arley William Heath and Vivian Essie (Yetter) Heath. She grew up in rural Minnesota and graduated from Yale High School in 1953. There she met her husband, Jack E. Dudley. They were united in marriage on Dec. 18, 1953, in Huron. To this union was born three children, Valarie, Bruce and Craig.


Shirley graduated from Northwestern College of Business with a Bookkeeping degree. She worked for St. John’s Hospital in Huron for a number of years doing payroll and accounts receivable. Shirley retired from working in 1976 to travel with her husband.


She loved the Black Hills and lived there for a brief time. In 2016, Shirley moved to Brookings. Due to recent health issues, Shirley has lived at Riverview Manor in Flandreau the past 15 months.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Arley and Vivian; her mother-in-law, Carrie Dudley; her husband, Jack E. Dudley; her sister, Mayme Botten; her son, Bruce E. Dudley and great-grandson, Dakota Blake Stultz.


Shirley is survived by her daughter, Valarie (Dennis) Langbehn, Hill City; and son, Craig E. Dudley, Brookings; grandchildren, Tonya (Shadd) Stultz, Wellington, Colo., Jack (Megan) Langbehn, Plymouth, Minn., Adam (Sami) Langbehn, Bremerton, Wash., Andrew (Kristen) Langbehn, Eagan, Minn., Erik H. Dudley, Rapid City, Kieth Dudley, Texas; also 14 great-grandchildren.


Shirley is smiling and loving on all her fur children at the Rainbow Bridge.
