Terry Wilbur Akin, 68, of Mellette

MELLETTE — Terry Wilbur Akin, 68, of Mellette, passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2017, of cancer at his home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 5, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Redfield. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Bernard’s Catholic Cemetery at Redfield. Visitation with family present will be Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Thelen-Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield followed by a Prayer Service and Rosary at 7 p.m.  
Terry Wilbur Akin was born on January 8, 1949, in Redfield to Bill and Lenora (Esser) Akin. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1968, and served in Vietnam for a year. He was honorably discharged in 1971. He was united in marriage to Cindy Eppard February 16, 1970, and was employed by Johnson Controls from 1992 to 2008.
He is survived by his wife; children,  Tammy (David) Hill of Hooper, Neb., Travis (Lacy) Akin of Bella Vista, Ark., Nicole (Darin) Nelson of Miller, Tara (David) Squires of Volga, and Angela (Jeff) Riley of Sioux Falls; sixteen grandchildren; siblings, MaryAnn (Jamie) Osborn, Kathy (Bob) Pfeiffer, Kay (Syl) Robinson, Carol (Doug) Miller, Jerry (Betty) Akin, and Danny (Jeannine) Akin; and many nieces and nephews.  
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Monie Garrey; and brother, Jack.
