WESSINGTON SPRINGS — Viola Mae Fuerst, 82, of Wessington Springs passed away Sunday November 18, 2018.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Saturday November 24, at the Foothills Bible Fellowship Church. Cremation will follow the service and inurnment will be at a later date. Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Basham Funeral Home in Wessington Springs.
Viola Mae (Vi) was born August 12, 1936 , at Alpena to Herbert and Mildred (Vearrier) Frier. She graduated valedictorian from Lane High School, class of 1954. She was united in marriage to Balzer (Sonny) Fuerst, Jr. March 15, 1959. She was employed as a bookkeeper for 31 years at the Jerauld Co. Farmers Union (Amkota Co-op) in Wessington Springs, retiring in 1998.
She was a member of the W.S. American Legion Auxiliary, Jerauld Co. Democrats, the Lane Alumni Association, and the Zion Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her children, Dennis of Peru, Ind., and Deb High of Plankinton; sister, Alice Kearney of Goreville, Ill; five grandchildren; several great-grandchidren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sisters, Ferne Kearney and Doris Wallin.
