WOONSOCKET — Wilfrid “Willie” Wallace Schmidt, 88, of Woonsocket, passed away Friday, May 19th, 2017, at Avera Medical Center Manor in Wessington Springs.
Memorial mass will be held Wednesday May 24, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Wilfrid Catholic Church. Inurnment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church with a rosary at 6:30 pm, followed by a scripture service at 7 p.m.
Wilfrid was born November 5, 1928, in northeast Aurora County to Adolph and Zita (McCall) Schmidt. He graduated from Woonsocket High School in 1946, and started farming in 1952. He was united in marriage to Patricia “Pat” Navin August 13, 1952. He was a member of the Belford Township Board, St. Wilfrid’s Church, and the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his five children, Linda (Doug) Kiesz of Bowdle, Pamela (Ron) Gastelecutto of Caldwell, Idaho, Kevin (Janelle) Schmidt of Las Gatos Calif., David “Terry” (Susan) Schmidt of Olathe Kan., and Kenneth (Lynne) Schmidt of Woonsocket; twelve grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren; brother, Albert (Muriel “Mike”) Schmidt of Woonsocket; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife; infant son, Curtis; and two sisters, Marion Goergen and Katie Robbins.
The family has chosen memorials to Avera Weskota Foundation (specifically Weskota Manor).
