HURON — Betty Severtson, 91, of Huron, passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at Avantara in Huron.


Her Funeral Service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, at Welter Funeral Home with burial to follow at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.


Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Wednesday afternoon.  


Betty was born on Feb. 27, 1932, in Devils Lake, N.D., to parents Howard and Cora (Hatten) Nixon. She grew up on the family farm near Southam, N.D. She attended Hope Country School through 4th grade, she then went to Southam School through 8th grade. She attended high school in Devils Lake where she stayed with her grandmother, graduating in June of 1950.


Betty married Lloyd Severtson on Aug. 8, 1952, at Southam, N.D. Betty and Lloyd moved to Huron in 1967, where they owned and operated the Riverside Motel. Betty also worked at Mahowald Hardware and Luther Paint for several years. Betty and Lloyd were married for 54 years before he passed away in 2004.


She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church. She enjoyed embroidery and made baby quilts for all of her great-grandchildren.


Betty is survived by her three children, Byron (Cheryl) Severtson of Huron, Coreen (Julian) Roseth of Midland, and Luanne (Kevin) Vining of Baltic; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Patty Moilanen of Bismarck, N.D.; and many nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd in 2004; her parents, Howard and Cora; her sister, Beverly Bragg; two brothers-in-law, Roland Moilanen and Howard Bragg.
