DELL RAPIDS — Doris E. Loban, 86, of Dell Rapids, and formerly of the Huron area, passed away Sunday, December 10, 2023, at Dougherty Hospice House (Avera At Home) in Sioux Falls.


Her memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, at Welter Funeral Home.

Memorial visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Welter Funeral Home.


Doris Earline was born on April 4, 1937 in Clark to parents Earl and Dora (Holmes) Boynton. She attended grade school in Conde and Bath High School where she was honored with homecoming queen and was an all-star softball player.


Doris married Don Barrie on July 10, 1954. She and Don had four children, Sue, Dean, Randy and Darla. They moved to Arizona in 1956 before returning to South Dakota in 1972. In 1977, Doris married Lyle Loban and they had one daughter, Lyla Jo.


Doris and Lyle made their homes in Doland, Yale, Iroquois, and Huron. Doris was a seasoned bartender working in the Doland and Huron Areas where she made many, many lifetime friends. She Also ran the Huron Coffee Shop and worked at the Fair City Cleaners. She retired and moved to Dell Rapids in 2017 to be closer to family.


She loved live music, dancing and was an excellent cook. Her passion was camping and being outdoors fishing and boating and sitting around the campfire with family and friends. Tubing with her grandkids at age 60 was a highlight for them all. To Doris, this was Living the Good Life!  
She was preceded by her parents, Earl and Dora Boynton; her children, Sue Lemus and Dean Barrie; her husbands, Lyle Loban and Don Barrie.


Doris is survived by her children, Randy (Cheri) Barrie, Darla (Kevin) Stordahl, Lyla (Kurt) VerMeer and Lance (Cindy) Loban; her grandchildren, Cassie Knowler, Tony Barrie, Lisa Barrie, Lori Bayne, Michelle Carey, Josh Howardson, Andy Howardson, Garett Howardson, Katlyn VerMeer, Karissa VerMeer, Ambria Neshem, Taya Glanzer, Jaclyn Steinheuser, Hannah Tschetter; her great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and her brothers, Charles (Nancy) Boynton and Donald (Kay) Boynton.
