HURON — Gloria Audrey Baatrup, 92, passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2024, in Huron.

Gloria is survived by her four children: Douglas (Linda) Baatrup of Tioga, N.D., Judy (Hal) Baatrup Wrentmore of Reno, Nev., Lorna (Craig) Webb of Pierre, and Karen (Greg) Szachara of Reno, Nev. She is also survived by five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters.

Born on Oct. 2, 1931, in Broadland, Gloria was the daughter of Elmer and Lillian Legrand.

She married Gunner Baatrup on Aug. 12, 1956, and together they had four children.
Gloria and Gunner lived in various places during their 70-year marriage, from South Dakota, to North Dakota, to Utah,  and Nevada. Settling down eventually, Gloria returned to Huron to be close to her brothers and sisters, especially her twin sister Gladys.

Their travels took them to Africa, Australia, China, Egypt, Hawaii, and the Holy Lands, leaving behind a trail of memories. Gloria was involved in the First United Methodist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Huron Area Senior Center.

Preceded in death by her husband; two brothers; and two sisters (one in infancy). Gloria’s journey has come full circle.

The family will hold a private ceremony in the near future, marking the end of Gloria’s well-lived life. The family requests memorials be made out to the Huron Area Senior Center.
