WOLSEY — Leon L. Moser, 71, of Wolsey passed away surrounded by his family on Friday, January 26, 2024.


His Funeral Service will be held Friday, Feb. 2, at 10 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wolsey with burial in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by the Wolsey American Legion.


Visitation with his family present will be Thursday, Feb. 1, from 5 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wolsey; or visitation one hour prior to the funeral service on Friday. The funeral service will be livestreamed through the church’s website, https://stjohnslutheran.sermon.net/main/


Leon LeRoy Moser was born on April 21, 1952, in Miller to parents LeRoy and Erma Moser. Leon graduated from Wolsey High School in 1971. He married Marilyn Scheel in Wolsey on Sept. 15, 1972. Leon and Marilyn lived in Wolsey for their married life.


Leon was a proud fisherman with a wealth of rods, lures, and stories of impressive catches. He loved his family and would often be found trying to take charge of his grandsons. He enjoyed farming and the peaceful task of mowing hay.


Leon served in the South Dakota Army National Guard for six years and was a member of the Wolsey American Legion.


Leon is survived by his wife, Marilyn; children, Matt (Tara) Moser of Wolsey and Lance (Callie) of Wessington; grandchildren, Teagen, Ty, Hannah, Jobie, Pepper, Murphy, Meadow, Briley, Kaylee, and Kinlee; sisters, Sheila (Loren) Boyens of Sioux Falls and Peggy (Jim) Wagner of Cottonwood, Ariz.; and brother, Dave (Barb) Moser of Huron.


He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Marvin Scheel; and mother-in-law, Grace Kludt.
