Lorraine A. Kleinsasser

WESSINGTON — Lorraine A. Kleinsasser, 88, of Wessington, passed away Saturday, December 23, 2023, at Huron Regional Medical Center.


Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, at First Presbyterian Church in Wessington with burial following in the Wessington Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service at the church Thursday.


Lorraine was born on Mary 18, 1935, in Huron to parents Sam K. and Lydia (Tschetter) Wipf. She attended Fairfield No. 4 School in Beadle County all eight years. She then graduated from Huron High School in 1953. Lorriane attended Grace Bible Institute in Omaha, Nebraska for one year.


She married LaVerne Kleinsasser on Nov. 23, 1954, at the Hutterthal Mennonite Church (now Prairie Bible Church.) The newlyweds moved to Wessington in May of 1964 where they raised their family of six children, LaDean, Leroy, Lee, LaRay, Larry, and LaVetta.


Lorriane was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Wessington. She belonged to the Presbyterian Women and the American Legion Auxiliary. Lorraine enjoyed working in her “lesson” book and watching baseball, particularly the Chicago Cubs. In her later years, she enjoyed wintering in Apache Junction, Arizona.


Grateful for having shared in her life are her six children, LaDean (Deborah) of Wessington, Leroy of Wessington, Lee (Cleo) of Miller, LaRay (Melony) of Wessington, Larry (Heidi) of Wessington, and LaVetta of Mahomet, Ill.; five grandchildren, Derek (Katelin) of Wessington, Jamie (Christopher) Larsen of Viborg, Cody (Megan) of Wessington, Cortney of Coon Rapids, Minn., and Cory of Sioux Falls; six great-grandchildren, Jett, Phoenix, Paislee, Saylor, Sam, and Sage; five step-grandchildren, 10 step-great grandchildren; sister Lilly Kern of Olivia, Minn.; two brothers, Ferd Wipf of Huron, and Peter (Cheryl) Wipf of Kentucky; her brothers-in-law, Claire McBride of Huron and Iky Wipf of Huron; two sisters-in-law, Susanne Kleinsasser of Sioux Falls and LaVonne Kleinsasser of Yankton; and a host of nieces and nephews and many cousins and friends.


She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, five sisters, one sister in infancy, and three brothers.


The family encourages memorials in lieu of flowers.
