HURON — Norelle Bartel, 85, of Huron, passed away December 26, 2023, at her home due to chronic health challenges.


A celebration of life honoring Norelle will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at the Living Hope Alliance Church. A meal will follow. The service will be livestreamed.


Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.


A private family burial will be held at a later date.


Norelle Hazel Christiansen Bartel was born June 1, 1938, to Clarence and Ethel Olson Christiansen, of Huron. She attended school in Huron and graduated from Huron High School. She then attended business school in Aberdeen.


She married Wilfred “Willie” Bartel at Huron, and together they raised their children in Huron. After Willie’s death, she married William “Bill” Russell, and the couple resided in Huron.


Norelle lived a full life and shared her many talents during her career as an operating room technician at Huron Regional Medical Center, and then as the program director at Huron Area Senior Center. She loved serving at Living Hope Alliance Church, volunteering for Huron Regional Medical Center Hospice Care, sewing and quilting. However, her greatest love was spending time with friends and family, especially her grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Bartel; her husband, Bill Russell; her father, Clarence Christiansen; her mother, Ethel Christiansen; her granddaughter, Amy Sue Bartel; her granddaughter, Tricia Ann Bartel; and her grandson, Branden Bartel.


Norelle is survived by her eight children, Roger (Linda) Bartel, Cindy (Doug) Sinclair, Ted (Donna) Bartel, Mel (Deb) Bartel, Dale (Koreen) Bartel, Nita (Tom) Sitterley, Toby (Tahnee) Bartel and Wendi (Kirk) Ford; her sister, Cheryl (Don) Alumbaugh; her sister-in-law and special friend, Janice Jungemann; her special friends, Donna Meiers and Larri Kahre; her bonus children, Amy Helm, Nancy Napier, Becky Guiot, Jennifer Russell and Lynn Judd; her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and her many nieces and nephews.
