HURON — Vernon D. Larsen, 68, of Wolsey, passed away Monday, January 15, 2024, at his home in Wolsey.


His Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wolsey.


Visitation, with the family present, will be one hour prior to the service at the church Saturday morning. Military Honors will be conducted by the Wolsey American Legion.


Vernon Dale Larsen was born on Jan. 22, 1955, to parents Harold and Mildred (Jungemann) Larsen in Huron. He lived on the family farm and attended Wolsey schools, graduating in 1973. After high school, Vernon served 12 years in the United States Air Force. He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, England, and Ellsworth AFB in different capacities as a nuclear weapon technician, dental assistant and telephone and repair specialist. Vernon then served in the SD Army National Guard as a combat engineer and a radio team chief until his 20-year retirement as a staff sergeant.


After the military, Vernon farmed full-time. He loved all aspects of farming especially making hay and harvesting.  He enjoyed restoring antique International Farmall tractors and Fiat vehicles.
Vernon participated in MS150 Bike rides for a few years where he gained many friends. Vernon also enjoyed spending time with his family and his cats.


He is survived by his siblings: brother, Bill (Carol) Larsen of Wolsey; sisters, Barbara (Neil) Otto of Riverton, Wyo., and Marjorie (Edward) Krzesinski of Edwardsville, Kan.; his nieces and nephews, Megan (Carson) Hofer, Matthew (Abby) Larsen, Maddie Larsen, Jon (Jamie) Otto, Chris (Lisa) Otto, Bridget (Zach) Walker, Bethany Krzesinski, and Micki Krzesinski; Also, special friends, Eric and Shannon Borah.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Mildred.
